On October 22, 2021, the groundbreaking ceremony for NORTHLAND’s intelligent bioengineering pharmaceutical production base was held in Tongzhou, Beijing. Representatives from the Beijing Federation of Overseas Chinese, the Beijing Center for Promotion of Biotechnology and New Pharmaceutical Industries, the Beijing Pharmaceutical Industry Association, Xiji Town in Tongzhou District, Zhongguancun Development Group, as well as investment and financial institutions including CITIC Securities, company shareholders, representatives from business partner organizations, and more than 100 employees of the company attended the groundbreaking ceremony, jointly witnessing another significant milestone in the company’s development history.

        Wang Yongjiang, Executive Deputy General Manager of the holding subsidiary—Beijing NORTHLAND Biopharmaceutical Co., Ltd.—first introduced the status of the biopharmaceutical production base project. The bioengineering drug production base, whose construction has now commenced, covers an area of 36,000 square meters with a total floor area of approximately 45,000 square meters and a total investment of about 450 million yuan. It will include a research and development center, a workshop for self-developed drugs, a CMO production workshop, and warehouses for raw materials and excipients. Upon completion and commissioning, it will become the country's first production facility dedicated to naked plasmid gene therapy drugs. This base will support the R&D, translation, production, and commercialization of the company’s core products, such as the bioengineering drugs NL003 and NL005, covering the entire industrial chain. Moreover, it will leverage digital and intelligent technologies to achieve independent control over the entire product lifecycle.

        Xu Songshan, Chairman of the company, delivered a welcoming speech. He stated: “The biopharmaceutical base project has received strong support from the governments of Beijing Municipality and Tongzhou District, as well as from relevant agencies. It marks an important milestone in the company’s transition toward industrialization. NORTHLAND’s core biopharmaceutical products have entered the commercial preparation stage. We will actively advance new drug research and development and the construction of a new pharmaceutical plant, building a modern, high-end, intelligent biopharmaceutical production base that is low-carbon, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly, in compliance with international GMP standards. At the same time, the company continues to foster innovation and actively fulfill its corporate social responsibilities by participating in the construction of Beijing’s sub-center and contributing to the region’s economic development.”

        Su Yong, Vice Chairman of the Beijing Federation of Overseas Chinese, congratulated NORTHLAND on the commencement of construction of its new pharmaceutical plant. He stated that NORTHLAND has consistently adhered to innovative development and pursued a path of specialization and excellence, serving as a model for successful innovation and entrepreneurship among overseas Chinese enterprises. He expressed hope that NORTHLAND’s new drug would be launched on the market soon and contribute to the innovative development of the regional economy.

        Ms. Zhou Yulan, Secretary of the Beijing Pharmaceutical Industry Association, fully affirmed NORTHLAND's spirit of daring to innovate and its achievements in the field of pharmaceutical R&D. She also expressed her commitment to actively implementing Beijing’s policies for the development of the pharmaceutical industry, leveraging the association’s resource advantages to provide proactive services to member companies, and expressed hope that the country’s first naked plasmid drug production base would be completed at an early date.

        Bi Yuguo, General Manager of Zhongtai Securities, congratulated NORTHLAND on its upcoming status as one of the first companies to be listed on the Beijing Stock Exchange. He stated: "The collaboration between Zhongtai Securities and NORTHLAND began in 2008. Over the past decade-plus, we have witnessed NORTHLAND's growth and expansion, forging a deep and lasting bond.         The participating leaders jointly launched the project commencement ceremony for the biopharmaceutical production base and laid the cornerstone, marking the successful completion of the groundbreaking celebration.
